ถ้อยความสุดท้ายก่อนที่คุณ แม่ชีแก้ว เสียงล้ำ จะละสังขารเมื่อวันที่ ๑๘ มิถุนายน ๒๕๓๘ ฝากไว้ให้กับคนรุ่นหลังว่า อย่าประมาทกับชีวิต ที่สำคัญท่านให้กำลังใจผู้ที่กำลังมุ่งตรงสู่หนทางแห่งการดับทุกข์นั้นว่าเป็นไปได้ ขอให้บำเพ็ญเพียรปฏิบัติจิตตภาวนาต่อไป อย่าได้ย่อท้อ มรรคผลนิพพานนั้นมีอยู่จริงดังที่พระพุทธเจ้าได้มอบแผนที่นำทางไว้ให้ปฏิบัติโดยไม่ต้องรอชาติหน้า
ทางตรงนั้นพระพุทธองค์วางไว้อย่างชัดเจนคือ อริยมรรคมีองค์ ๘ ประการ เป็นดั่งพ่วงแพของนักปฏิบัติที่ทิ้งไม่ได้ ตราบใดยังไม่ถึงฝั่ง บนหนทางของแม่ชีแก้วก็อาศัยหนทางนี้เช่นกัน
ย้อนกลับไปเมื่อ ๑๐๐ ปีก่อน ด.ญ.ตาไป๋ เสียงล้ำ ถือกำเนิดขึ้นในครอบครัวชาวภูไทที่รักสงบเมื่อวันที่ ๘ พฤศจิกายน ๒๔๔๔ ที่บ้านห้วยทราย จ.มุกดาหาร ซึ่งเดิมอยู่ในจ.นครพนม เป็นบุตรคนสุดท้องในจำนวน ๕ คน มีพี่ชาย ๓ คน และพี่สาวอีก ๑ คน ในวัยเพียง ๕ ขวบ คุณแม่ก็เสียชีวิต คุณพ่อมีภรรยาใหม่ เป็นหญิงม่ายลูกติด ๑ คน ไม่นานนักคุณพ่อก็เสียชีวิต ท่านก็อยู่กับครอบครัวใหม่ของคุณพ่ออย่างไม่มีปัญหาใดๆ ด้วยความขยันขันแข็งและพูดน้อยของท่าน
ที่มาของชื่อ แม่ชีแก้ว นั้น เป็นเพราะหลังจากที่ท่านแต่งงานและไม่มีลูก จึงได้ขอเด็กหญิงมาเลี้ยงและตั้งชื่อว่า 'แก้ว' เพื่อนบ้านจึงเรียกท่านว่า 'แม่แก้ว' (แม่ของแก้ว) และในที่สุดก็เรียกติดปากกันว่า 'แม่แก้ว'
ในวัย ๑๖ ปี หรือราวปีพ.ศ. ๒๔๖๐ แม่แก้วได้พบกับ หลวงปู่เสาร์ กันตสีโล และ หลวงปู่มั่น ภูมิทัตโต พร้อมคณะพระกรรมฐาน อันได้แก่ หลวงปู่เทสก์ เทสรังสี หลวงปู่ชอบ ฐานสโม หลวงปู่ขาว อนาลโย และหลวงปู่ฝั้น อาจาโร พร้อมด้วยภิกษุสามเณรจำนวนกว่า ๖๐ รูป ได้เดินทางมาถึงบ้านห้วยทราย ขณะที่แม่แก้วกำลังถางป่าเตรียมปลูกหม่อน หลวงปู่มั่นเห็นพื้นที่บริเวณป่าที่แม่แก้วจับจองและได้ถากถางเพิ่งแล้วเสร็จ เห็นว่าเหมาะที่จะสร้างเป็นสำนักสงฆ์ จึงได้ขอที่ตรงนั้นจากแม่แก้ว ท่านตกลงยกถวายหลวงปู่มั่น หลวงปู่มั่นให้พรว่า "ชาตินี้คุณแม่จะไม่มีวันอดอยาก"
วัดแห่งนี้ได้ถูกสร้างขึ้นในเวลาต่อมา ชาวบ้านเรียกว่า "วัดหนองน่อง" ครอบครัวของแม่แก้วเป็นผู้อุปัฏฐากดูแลวัดนี้ ท่านจึงติดตามคุณพ่อและคุณแม่ไปวัดเสมอ หลวงปู่มั่นได้ให้แม่ชีแก้วรับไตรสรณคมน์ที่นี่และสอนให้แม่แก้วภาวนา "พุทโธ ธัมโม สังโฆ" พร้อมลมหายใจ จนกระทั่งลงเหลือคำว่า "พุทโธ" อย่างเดียว
แม่แก้วภาวนาเช่นนี้ไปจนวันหนึ่งจิตรวม และปรากฏนิมิตขึ้น เห็นตนเองแก่ลงๆ และตายในที่สุด มีหนอนชอนไชอยู่ตามอวัยวะ ๓๒ กินร่างท่านจนเกิดความสลดสังเวชมาก รู้สึกเหมือนตัวออกจากร่างแล้วมองไปที่ศพ ในฝันนั้น หลวงปู่มั่นก็เดินมา ท่านจึงก้มกราบและนิมนต์หลวงปู่มั่นให้มาติกาบังสุกุลให้ หลังจากนั้นหลวงปู่มั่นได้ใช้ไม้เท้าชี้ลงไปที่ร่างของแม่แก้ว เกิดไฟลุกไหม้จนเป็นเถ้า ท่านคิดว่า เราตายแล้วจะได้ไปเกิดที่ไหน พ่อแม่ก็ตายหมดแล้ว เช้านี้ใครจะนึ่งข้าวใส่บาตรครูบาอาจารย์แทนเรา เมื่อคิดอย่างนั้นจิตถอนออกมา ขณะนั้นเป็นเวลาตีสี่ ลืมตาขึ้นมาก็เห็นว่าตนเองยังไม่ตาย
รุ่งเช้าเมื่อหลวงปู่มั่นมาบิณฑบาต แม่แก้วมาใส่บาตร หลวงปู่มั่นบอกให้ท่านตามไปที่วัด แล้วให้ท่านเล่าเรื่องฝันนี้ให้พระภิกษุทั้งวัดฟังถึงการภาวนาที่เกิดกับตัวท่าน จากนั้นหลวงปู่มั่นก็ให้แนวทางการภาวนามาเรื่อยๆ ต่อมาไม่นานหลวงปู่มั่นมีความประสงค์จะพาคณะสงฆ์ไปธุดงค์ยังถิ่นอื่นต่อไป ก่อนจากไป หลวงปู่มั่นปรารภกับแม่แก้วว่า หากคุณแม่เป็นผู้ชาย ก็จะให้บวชเณรและติดตามไปด้วย แต่คุณแม่เป็นผู้หญิงจะลำบากต่อพระธรรมวินัย และยังห้ามแม่แก้วภาวนาต่อ เพราะจิตของท่านนั้นโลดโผนมาก อาจเป็นอันตรายได้ อีกทั้งยังกำชับว่า วันหนึ่งจะมีครูบาอาจารย์มาสอนต่อให้
หลังจากที่แม่แก้วใช้ชีวิตครอบครัวไปสิบกว่าปีก็ขอสามีบวชชีเมื่ออายุ ๓๖-๓๗ ปี ที่วัดหนองน่อง นั่นเอง โดยมี หลวงพ่อกา (ปู่ของพระอาจารย์อินทร์ถวาย สันตุสสโก วัดป่าคำนาน้อย จังหวัดอุดรธานี) เป็นพระอุปัชฌาย์ หลังจากนั้นชีวิตของท่านก็ยังกลับมาทางโลกบ้าง แล้วก็กลับเข้าสู่บนหนทางการปฏิบัติธรรมที่มั่นคงขึ้นเรื่อยๆ โดยมีครูบาอาจารย์ในสายหลวงปู่มั่นคอยแนะแนวทาง จนกระทั่งตั้งสำนักชีบ้านห้วยทรายขึ้นเป็นเอกเทศ โดยไม่ต้องพึ่งพาอาศัยคณะภิกษุสงฆ์ แม่ชีทุกท่านที่นี่ต่างตั้งใจภาวนาอย่างสงบสุข กระทั่งหลวงปู่มั่นละสังขารในปี พ.ศ. ๒๔๙๒ คุณแม่ชีแก้วพร้อมด้วยคณะแม่ชีและชาวบ้านห้วยทรายได้เดินทางไปร่วมงานถวายเพลิงหลวงปู่มั่นที่วัดป่าสุทธาวาส
ในหนังสือ "ด้วยเดชพระเมตตา ที่บรรจุงานอัฐิธาตุ คุณแม่ชีแก้ว เสียงล้ำ" ได้รวบรวมประวัติ ปฏิปทา และแนวทางการปฏิบัติธรรมของคุณแม่ชีแก้วอย่างละเอียดให้คนรุ่นหลังได้ศึกษาวิถีชีวิตของลูกผู้หญิงคนหนึ่งที่เกิดและเติบโตมาอย่างธรรมดาๆ ทำสวนไร่นา แต่ก็แบ่งเวลาไปเข้าวัดฟังธรรมปฏิบัติธรรมจนกระทั่งออกบวชเป็นชีเพื่อมุ่งตรงต่อการดับทุกข์ทางใจสถานเดียวกระทั่งบรรลุมรรคผลนิพพาน
ดังที่ หลวงตามหาบัว ญาณสัมปันโน แห่งวัดป่าบ้านตาด จ.อุดรธานี ซึ่งเป็นครูบาอาจารย์ของคุณแม่ชีแก้วอีกท่านหนึ่งได้แสดงธรรมไว้ตอนหนึ่งว่า "ผู้เฒ่าแม่แก้วไม่มีทุกข์ ไม่มีสุข การปฏิบัติธรรมอย่างนี้ นับเป็นตัวอย่างของชาวพุทธ ที่ชาวพุทธทั้งหลายจะได้สำนึกในความกล้าหาญ เด็ดเดี่ยว มั่นคงและเป็นเอก เป็นผู้ปฏิบัติธรรมตามคำสอนของพระสัมมาสัมพุทธเจ้าได้ถึงที่สุดแล้ว"
